This too shall pass
The storm rages on. Nerves are frayed. Tempers flare. The house is a mess. No one is getting along. Temptations are nagging and the devil snickers. Well laid plans go off the rails and suddenly life seems uncertain. We receive bad news and everything changes. Maybe a child is going through a challenging stage. The finances take a nose dive. There’s too much rain (or not enough). You’re too busy or you’re bored. You’re toes get stepped on, again and by the same person. Insecurities flare up and you feel paralyzed by old emotions you thought you had outgrown. Relationships get strained. You suddenly find yourself outside of your comfort zone. You have a “Job day”, if it can go wrong, it will. You search for the light at the end of the tunnel and cling to the Rock of Ages. You sigh at the end of a hard day and tell yourself “This too shall pass”.
Then there are the days that pass like dream. Lovely things are all around. Life is just working out. Answered prayers lay scattered about like flower petals. Relationships are meaningful. The family laughs together around the supper table. It rains when we prayed for rain. The sun shone on the day we wanted it to. The crop grew. The children get along. The work got done and the moods stayed sweet. My devotions was meaningful and a song inspired me all day. We noticed the sunshine and birdsong. There is fulfillment and purpose in life. There are flowers on the windowsill of life. If this isn’t the good life, I don’t know what is! Do you also remember at the end of the day that this too shall pass?
Life is full of seasons. We are promised this. We know it to be true. Oh how we long to live with undercurrents of joy. If only the good time were here to stay. I’m thankful that God’s love and provision is not seasonal. Not matter what the season or weather of our lives, God is there, true and steady. His love shall not pass. Every moment is a gift of God, and it too shall pass. Treasure today, it is a gift.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven;
Verse 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
Verse 11 He has made everything beautiful in his time:
